Tim Lucas is part of the mortgage education team at Refi.com. Tim started in the mortgage industry at Washington Mutual in 2001, reviewing wholesale loan files from mortgage brokers. He became a Mortgage Loan Processor in retail lending at M&T Bank in the mid-2000s, examining loan files from first-time buyers, refinancing homeowners, investors using now-infamous "option ARMs," and jumbo buyers purchasing in the $1 million to $5 million range, which was a lot back then. He eventually started his own loan processing company while originating mortgages, mainly for first-time buyers using FHA and USDA loans. Then the 2008 housing crash happened. Needless to say, that was a tough time to be self-employed in the mortgage industry. So he then became a Loan Officer Assistant for a prominent Seattle-area Loan Officer at Seattle Mortgage and Golf Savings. Realizing his love for the details around mortgage approval, he transitioned to a Mortgage Processing Supervisor role in 2010 at Mortgage Advisory Group, a leading Seattle-area lender. He became known as a solutions-oriented processor, often troubleshooting complex loan files and discovering obscure rules that could help a borrower get approved. Then in 2013, after nearly 12 years in the industry, he transitioned to mortgage education, creating news and content for websites such as MyMortgageInsider.com and TheMortgageReports.com. He used his real-world knowledge to educate millions of buyers and refinancing homeowners with insider mortgage knowledge. He now combines more than a decade of mortgage industry experience with another decade of mortgage education. Tim is still licensed as a Loan Originator, NMLS 118763.
